Scripture interprets Scripture. This is a key principle in Bible study. The Word of God will not contradict itself. We need to remember that when we come across hard passages. You know what I mean, right? Passages where you want to avert your eyes—passages like Hebrews 11:35-40 that talk about temporal outcomes you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy much less think about happening to God’s chosen ones.
One benchmark truth from God’s Word that I find myself coming back to over and over again is from Psalm 119:68—God is good and does good. Bad things may happen in life, but that doesn’t alter the truth that God is good and does good. The circumstances of a fallen world cannot call into question the character of a good God.
God knows the whole story and while we sometimes act like life ends at the grave, God’s perspective far exceeds our often short-sighted view.
Even in the hard times our good God works all things together for good for “those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NASB)
So proud of you for your endurance and looking forward to hearing your thoughts this week!

Pam,
ReplyDeleteLoved reading Hebrews 12:1-3 this week. Needed to remember to run with endurance, fixing my eyes on Jesus and not growing weary. I'm down to just 4 more weeks of graduate coursework. I entered graduate school after a severe refining process by God. It's been a tough 2 years, but God is faithful.
Finish strong my friend!!
ReplyDeleteIt is so important that we live our lives with eternity in view. Sometimes that can be difficult with all of our “stuff” here on earth, and we get distracted and start to focus on the here and now. As believers, our eyes need to be fixed on eternity. Life extends beyond the grave and the “stuff” of earth that seems so important now will be of no value when we step into eternity. We need to be serving God and being faithful to Him while we are on earth and that in and of itself helps us to keep an eternal focus.
ReplyDeleteWe can have hope, because Jesus Himself has told us in John 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” What an incredible truth to dwell on—that believers in Jesus will be alive even after physical death.
Another verse that one of the members of our group mentioned was Psalm 68:20, “God is to us a God of deliverances; And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.” This verse is a good one to keep in mind, because when we are thinking biblically about life and death we realize that God is the one in control of our lives. He delivers us from death until the time he has appointed for us to die. He is sovereign over all things.
A verse that always seems to pop up in my life is James 1:12....it helps me keep a eternal view on whatever I seem to be facing. Thanks for a great video! Looking forward to finishing up the last little bit. (Just took me longer them most.) :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat verse! Keep on persevering!
ReplyDelete@Vessels . . . Great observations. His sovereignty has such impact on how we view life day by day.
